Masada and Dead Sea Private Tour

About this experience

One price covers the whole group. The listing includes a 10-hour tour with a fully qualified and licensed guide, pickup and drop-off at your hotel or private address, and a new air-conditioned private car. Each extra hour costs $40. Entrance fees, parking and toll roads, and food and drinks are not included. In 2026 the listings quote Masada National Park at 37 NIS, the Masada cable car at 54 NIS for the round trip, Ein Gedi Nature Reserve at 31 NIS and a private Dead Sea beach at 45 NIS. At $1,059 for up to 10 people, a full car works out at about $106 each before fees.

The route goes down through the Jordan Valley, with Jericho in the distance, and along the shore to Masada. You ride the cable car up and look down on the Snake Path. Masada is the fortress King Herod built on a desert mesa about 400 m above the Dead Sea. The Romans besieged it in 73/74 CE, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The guide shows you the synagogue, the bathhouse, the pool and the storehouses. After Masada come the waterfalls and pools of Ein Gedi, a stop with the guide at Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, and a float at a Dead Sea resort, with a sulphur pool nearby to wash off the mud.

The listing has one review so far, a 5-star one, so there is very little to go on. Weigh that against the bigger tours. The private format is the real reason to book: one group, your pace. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Tips before you book

  • Budget for the gates. Masada and the cable car come to 91 NIS a head, and Ein Gedi adds 31 NIS.
  • Bring cash, water and closed-toe shoes as well as sandals. The listing asks for all of them.
  • Tell the guide early if you want more time somewhere. Extra hours cost $40 each.
  • Know the bathing rules. Bathe only at a declared beach while the lifeguards are on duty, walk in slowly, keep your face out of the water and rinse in the freshwater showers afterwards. Salt water in the eyes stings badly, and none of it should be swallowed.
  • Bring your passport. The road down from Jerusalem, Route 1 east and then Route 90 south along the shore, crosses the West Bank, so carry your passport.
