Masada, Ein Gedi and Dead Sea by Bus

About this experience

This is a ride and a beach ticket, with the sights left to you. The listing includes air-conditioned transport and entry to a Dead Sea beach. Masada (37 NIS), the Masada cable car round trip (54 NIS) and Ein Gedi (31 NIS) are paid on the day, which comes to 122 NIS with the cable car or 68 NIS if you walk the Snake Path. Food, drinks and a towel are extra.

It is sold as self-guided, but guests say otherwise in a good way. They name Shmuli, Samuel and Ariel, and one family wrote that he shared all he knew about the geography, the climate, the sea and the wildlife. Masada is the fortress King Herod built on a desert mesa about 400 m above the Dead Sea. The Romans besieged it in 73/74 CE, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The listing suggests the cable car to the top. Then you walk Ein Gedi. Ein Gedi is a spring-fed nature reserve on the shore between Masada and the northern beaches. The short trail up Nahal David, David's stream, passes pools to David's waterfall in about an hour there and back, and ibex and rock hyraxes often wander close to the path. The day ends with a float and the mud. One guest notes that when Ein Gedi was closed after a flash flood, the bus went to Qumran instead.

The listing has 4.7 stars from 51 reviews, with 4.9 for the guide and 4.6 for value, one of the best scores on this site. It is not suitable for people with mobility impairments. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

What guests say

★★★★★

We had an amazing day - although it was meant to be a self guided tour, Shmuli the guide has so much knowledge of the area that he shared all he knew about the geography, climate, information about the Dead Sea, Masada and wildlife of the area. We were 2 adults. 2 kids and a grandma and all really enjoyed it. [...]

A trip of a lifetime! Masada is full of rich history which our AMAZING guide Ariel shared wonderfully. You can feel the connection to the ancient world when you are there. The Dead Sea is definitely a bucket list site. [...]

Tips before you book

  • Carry shekels for the gates: 122 NIS with the cable car, 68 NIS if you walk.
  • Leave spare clothes on the bus. A guest says they could safely leave what they were not using on it.
  • Bring hiking shoes, flip-flops, sunscreen and water. The listing asks for all of them.
  • Know the bathing rules. Bathe only at a declared beach while the lifeguards are on duty, walk in slowly, keep your face out of the water and rinse in the freshwater showers afterwards. Salt water in the eyes stings badly, and none of it should be swallowed.
  • Bring your passport; a copy is accepted. The road down from Jerusalem, Route 1 east and then Route 90 south along the shore, crosses the West Bank, so carry your passport.
