Masada, Ein Gedi and the Dead Sea with a guide

A hand-picked guide takes you from Jerusalem to Masada by cable car, through the Ein Gedi oasis and down to a private Dead Sea beach. Pick it if you want all three sights explained, and you are happy to pay the gates yourself.

Masada, Ein Gedi and Dead Sea Guided Tour

About this experience

Read the price carefully, because this is the one tour that leaves every fee to you. The listing includes transport and a hand-picked expert guide. It does not include Masada National Park (37 NIS), the Masada cable car (54 NIS), Ein Gedi (31 NIS) or the private Dead Sea beach (45 NIS). Add them up and you pay about 167 NIS at the gates. In return you get the only tour here that pairs Masada, Ein Gedi and the sea with a live guide all day, at the lowest headline price for a guided trip.

The day starts at the fortress. Masada is the fortress King Herod built on a desert mesa about 400 m above the Dead Sea. The Romans besieged it in 73/74 CE, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. You ride the cable car up and walk the ruins with the guide. Then comes Ein Gedi. Ein Gedi is a spring-fed nature reserve on the shore between Masada and the northern beaches. The short trail up Nahal David, David's stream, passes pools to David's waterfall in about an hour there and back, and ibex and rock hyraxes often wander close to the path. The last stop is a private beach on the Dead Sea, to float and try the mud. The operator promises daily guaranteed departures.

The listing has 4.4 stars from 253 reviews. Groups run up to 30. Guests name Slomi and Sharif, and say the guide called everyone the night before to explain what to bring. The listing itself says to bring water shoes and cash. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

What a great tour. Our guide was so good, he contacted everyone the night before to make sure we knew what to bring and what to expect the next day. He was very detailed and his knowledge was amazing. He had an answer for every question asked!

Tips before you book

  • Bring about 167 NIS in cash per person for the four fees, plus money for lunch.
  • Pack water shoes. The listing asks for them, and they help on Ein Gedi's wet rocks and the salty shore.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and a sun hat. Masada and Ein Gedi both involve walking in strong sun.
  • Know the bathing rules. Bathe only at a declared beach while the lifeguards are on duty, walk in slowly, keep your face out of the water and rinse in the freshwater showers afterwards. Salt water in the eyes stings badly, and none of it should be swallowed.
  • Bring your passport. The road down from Jerusalem, Route 1 east and then Route 90 south along the shore, crosses the West Bank, so carry your passport.
