Masada and Dead Sea Day Tour with Pickup

About this experience

This is the one most people book, and the reason is simple. The listing includes entry to Masada, the round-trip cable car and entry to the Dead Sea beach, on top of pickup and drop-off, a professional guide and the coach. In 2026 the listings quote Masada National Park at 37 NIS, the Masada cable car at 54 NIS for the round trip, Ein Gedi Nature Reserve at 31 NIS and a private Dead Sea beach at 45 NIS. Several cheaper trips leave those fees to you on the day; this one does not. Food, drinks and tips are the only extras.

The guide tells the story on the way down. The listing promises a roadside view of the Good Samaritan, the landmark named after the parable, and the caves at Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Masada is the fortress King Herod built on a desert mesa about 400 m above the Dead Sea. The Romans besieged it in 73/74 CE, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. On top you walk through palace remains, mosaic floors, Roman baths, an early synagogue and the huge water cisterns. Then the coach drops to the shore, where you float and can try the black mud. The Dead Sea lies about 439 m below sea level, the lowest land on Earth, and its water is about 34% salt, roughly ten times saltier than the ocean. You float whether you can swim or not.

The listing has 4.4 stars from 836 reviews, with 4.7 for the guide. Guests name Daniel, Udi and Eli, and one wrote that the guide covered Israel's modern history as well as Masada's. Groups run up to 40 people, and the tour is not suitable for children under 4 or wheelchair users. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Tips before you book

  • Bring your passport. The listing asks for it, and the road down from Jerusalem, Route 1 east and then Route 90 south along the shore, crosses the West Bank, so carry your passport.
  • Pack swimwear and a towel. The listing lists both, and old clothes are best if you plan to use the mud.
  • Wear a hat and sunglasses on the summit. There is little shade on the Masada plateau.
  • Know the bathing rules. Bathe only at a declared beach while the lifeguards are on duty, walk in slowly, keep your face out of the water and rinse in the freshwater showers afterwards. Salt water in the eyes stings badly, and none of it should be swallowed.
  • Want the full picture first? Our Masada, Ein Gedi and Dead Sea guide lays out the classic day.
